I decided to volunteer with Vision Literacy because I found their cause dear to my own heart. As a young child, I struggled with learning disabilities that made reading and writing extremely difficult for me. It took me a few years and a lot of outside tutoring to catch up to my peers. I am grateful that my mom could afford that additional support for me, but understand that a lot of families do not have the luxury to offer that to their children.
I strongly believe that education and more specifically, literacy, is the most important foundation for success among children and adults to truly thrive. The Silicon Valley has a lot of opportunities to offer. However, literacy is crucial in order to survive in this area. Vision Literacy offers many classes in order to help adults learn to read and write in English, as well as become literate in other areas, such as technology.
I love to giving back to my community by helping Vision Literacy reach as many people as possible. So, I offer my spare time to the organization's social media outreach team. I am inspired by the people who volunteer at this non-profit organization. What really motivates me though, the people who are brave enough to seek out Vision Literacy to help them achieve their literacy goals.
I encourage people to take this opportunity to become part of such a life changing organization.
