The "Together We Learn" program, was an end of session celebration on Wednesday, April 8th, 2015 at the Ellis Elementary School.
This event was held to celebrate the many women who have attended weekly classes with Vision Literacy along with their children and other family members. This was not only a celebration for the learners, but also all of the Ellis School staff and the many volunteers who felt incredibly rewarded for their investment in the progress the women have made the past few months.
The women received formal recognition on stage with a certificate to remember their accomplishments. There was also a lovely dinner and dessert for everyone at the event to enjoy.
One eight year old, Latino boy said, " I didn't know my Mom could speak so well in English."
"It was a terrific ceremony. I really enjoyed the participation of the whole family in the graduation ceremony. Very different that in the U.S. I also liked that the women all chose to get really decked out in beautiful blue dresses and many of them went out to buy a new dress just for the occasion despite limited finances. it shows how much they valued the program." - Nancy Westreich
It was a great celebration for all.
Special thanks to Dagmar Skrobakova, an adult learner, who attends another Vision Literacy program at the Columbia Middle School in Sunnyvale for sharing these wonderful photos.
