How to Become a Vision Literacy Tutor
Are you over age 18, with a love of reading and helping others? You could soon be volunteering as a tutor for Vision Literacy!
Truly successful tutors are patient, flexible, creative, committed, and open to learning along with their learners.
You'll start by attending a 60-minute free orientation introducing you to Vision Literacy, the services we offer, and criteria for participating in the services.
Then it's on to a 12.5-hour training class. You'll learn how to plan individual lessons based on learner needs, learning style and interests. You'll also learn how to
incorporate real-life material from learners' work, home, and personal lives. A donation helps to provide free instruction.
Once you complete your training, Vision Literacy will match you with a learner or small group of learners, based on their reading levels, interests and special needs.
Tutor and Learner Commitments
Both tutors and learners should expect to be working together for at least six months for 2 hours once or twice a week.
Tutors and learners can schedule meetings at a time and public location that is convenient for them.
