What We Do
Vision Literacy provides innovative literacy tutoring and leadership services for adults in Santa Clara County. We strive to empower adult learners to reach their personal goals and potential by:
- Promoting mutual commitments of learners and community partners
- Providing an accessible process for investing time, funding, and other resources
History By 1985 the growing numbers of adults in Santa Clara County with difficulties in reading, writing, and basic math skills was a pressing issue. Vision Literacy came into existence as the Reading Program in response to that need. The program, a service of the Santa Clara County Library, became an early member of the State Library's California Literacy Campaign.
Today Vision Literacy serves all Santa Clara County libraries as well as the City of Mountain View Public Library. Our
programs include individual and small group tutoring that focuses on the specific learner needs.
Vision Literacy Changes Lives Vision Literacy has assisted thousands of adult learners in building their reading and writing skills, empowering them to change their lives in countless ways. Improved literacy skills, in turn, benefit the entire community.
Partnered for Success Trained Vision Literacy
volunteer tutors listen to the interests and goals expressed by the learner so they can offer meaningful individual and small-group instruction. Vision Literacy also provides professional staff support, free instructional materials, and a variety of innovative support services to all our program participants.
In addition to tutors, Vision Literacy's success depends on the individuals, organizations, and businesses who share our commitment.
