Literacy Building Block Luncheon
'the darkness within
the fear taking birth
the dark ink, the written word
scaring me to death
for I know not what they mean,
what they express
I only know the darkness within
because I can't read!'
- Shaifali Gupta
Have we, the 'literate' ones ever wondered how does it feel to be someone who can't make out what's written on a piece of paper, on an advertisement board, on a promotional flyer, on a little text book! May be we have often tried to understand the plight of a person who can't read or who can't read well enough, but I am sure we can't fully be in their shoes. It's the same thing as a person with normal vision, can't understand the pain of a blind person. The world is dark for the latter.
The written word, the inked stained paper is also dark for a man who can't read. Reading is a necessity, literacy is a necessity. Vision Literacy is an organization that works for making the world transform from dark to bright for those who can't read or are not confident enough in their reading. Our learners are our success and April 19, 2013 is a big day for us. We take immense proud and pleasure in celebrating the presence of the living legend, Dr. Robert (Bob) Laubach, the literacy pioneer. He is the founder of the New Readers Press and we, in collaboration with ProLiteracy America will honor him.
Listen to this adult literacy legend speaking about the development and evolution of New Readers Press-
The event is a luncheon and we invite the literacy supporters, the believers and welcome them to have a say in this noble mission to make this world a better place by helping someone read. You are heartily welcome! Come join us this April 19!
