Inspiring Words from Program Coordinator: Barbara Blake
Barbara Blake is the Program Coordinator of the Columbia program at Vision Literacy. She has been involved with literacy tutoring for more than 25 years. She started in the late 1980s tutoring illiterate adults, then tutoring children in a homeless shelter. Eventually, she realized how much she enjoyed working with adults, teaching them to read and write English. When she found Vision Literacy she decided this is it.
During the week, she volunteers at the office and tutors an intermediate group at Columbia Middle School in Sunnyvale. “I really enjoy the dedication these learners have to learning the English language. It is very rewarding to see the smiles when they finally understand and/or get their questions answered” she says.
